Bouches du Rhône
The Bouches du Rhône offer a picture in contrast with the very urbanized areas and the wilderness beauty spots.
The emblematical urban center of Aix/Marseille has a major economic part in the Provence Côte d'Azur area. Marseille is the first harbour in France, and the south area capital. Some words are typically from this town: harbour, cosmopolitan, OM, the "bonne
mère" and the accent from Marseille.
The Camargue, natural, unique and wilderness park, is a nearly desert region. The Camargue is an agricultural area in the north: rice-plantations, market-gardening and cereals. In the south area, it's the cowherds ' land, these boys who riding their white horses, breed
the famous bulls fighters.
The Calanques, fantastic sanctuary of stones, water and sun, are an exceptional sports-ground to climb or walk on vertiginous lanes. You can only have a walk to the Cabanon to play a joyful and noisy game of bowls, under a fantastic sunset and after having taken a
good nap.
You will recover your emotions at the appetizer time.
In the north, the welcoming and typical Alpilles look down upon the rich valleys of Provence. In villages, located in a high position (like "Les Baux", "St Rémy"), you can discover the traces of a marvellous mediaeval past.
The real estate prices are the lowest in the north of this department, and as for all the seaside departments, the border land is the most expensive.
